Friday's inauguration of President Laurie A. Carter was followed by a Saturday celebration that brought the community to campus and honored Lawrence's 175-year anniversary.

The May 13 inauguration of President Laurie A. Carter will kick off a two-day campus celebration that also honors the 175-year anniversary of the founding of Lawrence.

As Lawrence University marks the 175th anniversary of its founding in 1847, we take a moment to remember these 47 famous visitors to campus. There are many more, of course. But 47 seems appropriate.

Lawrence is celebrating 175 years since its founding. As we also celebrate Black History Month during February, we applaud these icons who came to campus speak, perform, and inspire.

Andrew Mast stepped up to organize the January recital that helped launch the year-long 175th celebration. He did so in part because he has been fascinated by the school’s rich history ever since he arrived on the Conservatory faculty in 2004.

Lawrence University is launching a year-long celebration of its 175th anniversary this weekend, complete with a virtual trivia contest, a live-streamed music recital, and the opening of an online merchandise store.

When Laurie Carter began her tenure as Lawrence's new president on July 1, it marked a pivotal moment in Lawrence’s 174-year history, with faculty and students returning to the classroom after four terms of distance learning. Her first six months have focused on conversation and community.
