Lawrence University Voter Guide

Below is your step-by-step guide to getting registered and voting in the November 5 General Election for students who desire to vote in Appleton. If you desire to vote absentee in a place other than Appleton, please check out Vote.gov for registration and voting information for all 50 states and territories.

Step 1: Registration

  • Registration Information

    • Residential Address: The address of your campus residential building with your room number must be listed on all voter forms as your Residential Address.

    • Mailing Address: Your SPC number at 711 E. Boldt Way must be listed as the mailing address on the voter registration application.
    • Valid Voter ID: a valid Voter ID contains Full Name, Photo of you, Issue Date, Expiration Date, and Signature. Examples of a valid Voter ID include: a WI Driver’s License or ID Card, a U.S. Passport, or a Student Voter ID. To obtain your Student Voter ID, visit this page to log into your Voyager account to print your ID card.
    • Proof of Residence:
      • Students living on campus will not need to provide a Proof of Residence (POR) document. The certified housing list has already been provided by the University to the Clerk's Office. This list will be at all of the polling locations. What students living on campus who do not have a valid WI ID card must provide is your printed AND signed Student Voter ID.
      • All other students not currently living on campus will need a POR that must have your Full Name and Current Residential Address listed. This POR document could be: Wisconsin Driver’s License or ID Card, Utility Bill, or Residential Lease. For additional Proof of Residence options, visit Elections.wi.gov/Register.

 

  • Registration Options

    • Online (not applicable to students registering using a campus address): If you have a Wisconsin Driver’s License or ID card and your address has been updated with the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles, you may register online at Myvote.wi.govThe deadline for online registration is October 16, 2024. 
    • By mail: You may mail your completed and signed Registration Form along with Proof of Residence (i.e., copy of Student Voter ID) to the Appleton City Clerk’s Office, 100 N. Appleton Street, 6th Floor, Appleton WI 54911, as long as it is postmarked by October 16, 2024. 
    • In person: Visit the Appleton City Clerk’s Office, 100 N. Appleton Street, 6th Floor, Appleton, WI 54911, and register in person through Friday, November 1, 2024. To speed up the process, please access the Registration Form and have it filled out when you come in, or fill out the hardcopy form provided in the Clerk’s office prior to coming to the counter. Please be sure to bring your student voter ID. 
    • At the polls: Go to your polling place on Election Day and register in person. You will be able to vote immediately after completing registration, so be sure to bring your Student Voter ID.

Step 2: Voting

  • In-Person Absentee Voting: In-person absentee voting is available at Appleton City Clerk’s Office, 100 N. Appleton Street, 6th Floor, Appleton, WI 54911, at these dates and times:
    • Tuesday, October 22 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday, October 23 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Thursday, October 24 from 8 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Friday, October 25 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Monday, October 28 from 8 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday, October 29 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday, October 30 from 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Thursday, October 31 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Friday, November 1 from 8 a.m. - Noon
  • Mailed Absentee Voting: To request a ballot for mailed absentee voting in Appleton, you must be a registered voter at your current campus address. You will need to supply a copy of our valid Voter ID with your request, unless you already have one on file. To request a ballot, go online to Myvote.wi.gov, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 31.
  • Vote at polls on Election Day: Visit your polling place between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on November 5, 2024. You may register to vote and cast your ballot during this time. There are three polling locations based on your campus Residential Address:
    • District 11 – Saint Joseph Parish Center at 404 W. Lawrence St.
      • Brokaw: 115 S. Drew St., Appleton, WI 54911
      • Colman: 212 S. Durkee St., Appleton, WI 54911
      • Hiett: 403 E. College Ave., Appleton, WI 54911
      • Kohler: 718 E. Alton St., Appleton, WI 54911

Print this for your Voter Identification.

Once you print your Voter Identification, be sure to sign your Voter Identification in front of a staff member at the CCE or the Career Center. This is not your voter registration, but it will be required in order to register at the polls.

Voter Registration

Lawrence University works closely with the City of Appleton's Clerk's Office to provide proof of residence so you can register to vote in Wisconsin if you are eligible. You will be able to vote immediately after completing registration. If you live on campus, Lawrence has provided your proof of residence to Appleton City's Clerk's Office.

Confirm you are registered to vote in Wisconsin by visiting myvote.wi.gov. 

You can also register at the polls immediately after completing registration. Be sure to bring your Voter ID. 

Escorts to Campus Polling Location

If you would like someone to go with you to the polls to vote, shuttles are available. Stop by the CCE Office in Warch Campus Center or email the CCE team at community.engagement@lawrence.edu for details regarding election day shuttles to the poles.  Students, staff and faculty are on cue as volunteer drivers as long as they are LU authorized drivers.
