Yes, you can study abroad during the summer.

If you're finding it hard to make space for study abroad during the academic year, consider a summer program. You will get the same benefits as you would on a semester program - earn credits towards your degree, immerse yourself in a new culture, improve language skills - with a shorter time commitment and less chance for conflict of academic interest.

Policy for Participation in Non-Affiliated Summer Programs

Students may elect to participate on a non-affiliated off-campus program, seek transfer credit for that experience, and be on leave from Lawrence for the time of their participation in the non-affiliated program.  Lawrence scholarships and grants cannot be applied to program costs associated with non-affiliated programs.  By choosing to participate in a non-affiliated program, students understand that Lawrence cannot verify the quality of educational experiences at the host institution and may have limited ability to assist in the event of health or security concerns. While Lawrence is not able to provide assistance throughout the program's application process, students interested in participating in a non-affiliated program must work closely with the Off-Campus Programs office in preparing for administrative aspects of this. To start this process, students should contact OffCampusPrograms@lawrence.edu to set up Non-Affiliated travel documentation in the Off-Campus Programs student portal.

Transferring Credit for Non-Affiliated Summer Program Participation

Submit the transfer course details to the Registrar's office via the Transfer Credit Request form found on the Registrar's site. The Registrar will need to review the courses on their own merits to be sure they fit within the structure of a liberal arts curriculum. If approved, the completed coursework (upon successful completion) must be vetted through ECE or WES.

ECE/WES

If you are transferring credit from an institution outside the United States, please submit your transcripts/documents to Education Credential Evaluators, Inc (ECE) or World Education Services (WES) for evaluation.

Insurance for Summer Programs

Students participating on international affiliated programs during the summer will require insurance through our provider CISI for the duration. The cost for that is $51.25 per month and will be charged to your student account.

Students opting to participate in international non-affiliated summer programs will need to find and purchase their own international health insurance. Our office can help direct you to options if required.
