About

A prolific collaborator, Tim Albright has performed and recorded with an eclectic mix of artists including the Metropolitan Opera, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, American Brass Quintet, The Brass Band of Battle Creek, Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, Dafnis Prieto, Steve Lehman, Miguel Zenon, Jay-Z, Barbara Streisand, Sufjan Stevens, the National, and Bon Iver. His trombone can be heard on Dafnis Prieto’s Grammy Award winning album, Back To the Sunset.

He is a member of Brassology, and was trombonist with the Atlantic Brass Quintet for fifteen years. He is the principal trombonist with the Fox Valley Symphony, and he has been the trombone professor at Lawrence University since 2016.

Tim grew up in a music-loving family in Northern California. Initially disappointed that he couldn’t play the trumpet or percussion in 4th grade band, Tim eventually fell in love with the expressive and versatile sound of the trombone. His wide musical interests led him to the Eastman School of Music where he earned a degree in classical and jazz performance. Before graduating, he recorded and toured with jazz luminaries and eventually landed in New York City where he lived for seventeen years. His trombone can be heard on numerous Broadway cast albums, film soundtracks, and dozens of studio albums.

In 2016, Tim and his family moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where he is the trombone professor at Lawrence University. He is grateful to work alongside an exceptional community of young musicians and colleagues, and he continues to travel to New York and around the world to perform with friends and musical heroes.

When not playing the trombone, Tim loves camping in the redwoods, knitting, making compost, cooking, and doing all of the above with his wife and two sons.
