FAQs

Who is eligible to benefit from the Lawrence Advantage?

Most students whose parents’ income is less than $150,000 and are residents of Wisconsin or Illinois will benefit from the Lawrence Advantage. Families whose income is under $70,000 will have 100% of tuition covered with grants and scholarships.

How does the Lawrence Advantage work?

Each student’s financial need is calculated by subtracting their family’s expected contribution from the total cost of attendance.

Cost of Attendance Includes tuition, fees, housing, meal plan, books, transportation, and personal expenses
- Expected Family Contribution Based on the FAFSA and financial aid application. This is a family's out-of-pocket expense.
= Financial Need The remaining cost

Lawrence University’s generous financial aid meets most (90-95%) of each student’s Financial Need through scholarships, loans, grants, and employment. With the Lawrence Advantage, any remaining need will be met with an additional Lawrence grant.

Scholarships earned outside of Lawrence will reduce your family’s contribution. It will not affect the amount of aid you receive.

Do we need to apply or complete any additional paperwork?

Families simply need to complete the FAFSA and supplemental financial aid application.

What if our family's state residency changes?

If your family moves out of Wisconsin or Illinois after previously receiving aid from the Lawrence Advantage, your future aid will not be affected.

What happens if our household's income changes in the future?

We recognize that income may fluctuate from year to year. If your family’s income changes, reach out to the Financial Aid Office.

Does the Lawrence Advantage apply to Off-Campus Programs?

Your aid will be based on your family’s need and the cost of residing on campus. If there are additional costs to studying abroad, there will not be an in-kind increase in aid. However, Lawrence offers an abundance of scholarships for off-campus programs.

What happens if my student takes a year off?

Taking time off from Lawrence will not impact their eligibility to receive aid from the Lawrence Advantage.
