About

I am a musician who is passionate about drawing audiences deeply into the art of sound; an educator who cares deeply about nurturing an interest in growth and discovery; and an entrepreneur who continually searches for meaningful ways to engage communities.

My abilities as a trombone soloist, chamber musician, and improviser have taken me to prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, the Barbican (London) and the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ (Amsterdam) and have led to working with some of the most prominent classical and popular artists today including award-winning composers Tyshawn Sorey, Steve Reich, John Adams, John Luther Adams, Charles Wuorinen, and David Lang, and experimental groups like Medeski Martin and Wood, and the Dirty Projectors.

I am a founding member and the Director of Marketing of Alarm Will Sound, a group that has been awarded the ASCAP Concert Music Award for "the virtuosity, passion and commitment with which they perform and champion the repertory for the 21st century” and which has been called the “future of classical music” by The New York Times. Alarm Will Sound's recording of Tyshawn Sorey's For George Lewis was named a "best recording of 2021" by NPR, The New Yorker, The New York Times, and others. As a recording artist, I can be heard on Nonesuch Records, Decca, Cantaloupe Records, Klavier, and Mark Records.

I am committed to expanding the role of what it means to be a 21st century musician. My work often takes me beyond the concert hall and into the broader community and frequently involve extra-musical elements including movement, lighting, and video. I am proud to have served on the brass faculty at Dickinson and Messiah Colleges where my work also included developing a new ensemble dedicated to collaboration and improvisation. I am a graduate of Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and the Eastman School of Music.
