Reminder: FAFSA uses tax information from two years prior.
STEP 1: Complete Verification Form
Most Lawrence students are considered "dependent" when applying for financial aid.
STEP 2: Verify Your (Student) Income Information
Verify your income information in one of the following ways:
Option A: Submit a copy of your W-2 form(s) to our office if you worked but did not file a federal tax return
Option B: Use the FAFSA IRS Data Retrieval Tool
- The FAFSA IRS Data Retrieval transfers your information from the IRS database into your FAFSA. Link your taxes by using the data retrieval tool. Find out more information on linking your taxes with the data retrieval tool here.
Option C: Submit a Signed Copy of Your (Student's) Federal Tax Return
- Submit a signed copy of your federal tax return (pages 1 & 2 of the IRS 1040 form and any schedules filed) - See an example of the IRS Form 1040 here.
Option D: Request a Copy of your Tax Return Transcript from the IRS
- Submit a copy of your Tax Return Transcript. Click here to request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS.
STEP 3: Verify Parent Income Information
Verify your parents' income information in one of the following ways:
Option A: Use the FAFSA IRS Data Retrieval Tool
- The FAFSA IRS Data Retrieval transfers your information from the IRS database into your FAFSA. Link your taxes by using the data retrieval tool. Find out more information on linking your taxes with the data retrieval tool here.
Option B: Submit a Signed Copy of Your Parents' Federal Tax Return
- Submit a signed copy of your parents' federal tax return (pages 1 & 2 of the IRS 1040 Form and any schedules filed) - See an example of the IRS Form 1040 here.
- Examples of schedules:
- IRS Schedules 1, 2, 3
- IRS Schedules A, C, E, and/or F
- IRS Form 1065 (Partnership Income)
Option C: Request a Copy of your Parents' Tax Return Transcript from the IRS
- Submit a copy of your parents' Tax Return Transcript. Click here to request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS.
Option D: If your Parent(s) did not file a Federal Tax Return, they must:
- Complete and submit the Non-Tax Filer Parent Form
- Submit a copy of the "Verification of Non-filing Letter" they receive from the IRS
- Submit any other applicable documents (copies of W-2 forms, etc.)
