Gerry Max ’67 reconnected with Herbert Tjossem shortly before his former professor turned 100 years old. It was an interest in the life and work of Richard Halliburton that brought them together.

Constance Kassor, associate professor of religious studies, focuses much of her teaching on Buddhist thought and Asian religious traditions and has been a frequent collaborator across departments since arriving at Lawrence in 2016.

Eliza Peetz, a sophomore from Fall River, Wisconsin, is working through the CCE to help her fellow Lawrence students feel prepared for the Nov. 8 general election. She is Lawrence’s first Civics & Society coordinator.

John Gardner, founder of the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education, and Betsy Barefoot, a senior scholar with the Institute, led faculty and staff through a workshop on improving the first-year experience.

Tom McKenzie ’95 is the new director of Björklunden, Lawrence’s northern retreat. He has deep roots in Wisconsin and Door County, returning after spending the past 21 years in southern California.

The Latin American and Spanish Film Festival returns to Lawrence University Oct. 13-16 after a two-year absence. The festival is an independent event organized by Rosa Tapia, professor of Spanish, and Cecilia Herrera, instructor of Spanish.

Meet Arnold Shober, professor of government. He's been teaching about government and public policy at Lawrence since 2006 and frequently helps the media and community groups make sense of it all.

Doing Nothing, a newly launched weekly course aimed at teaching students about best practices in disconnecting from technology and being fully present, is drawing wide interest on and off campus.

Lawrence is investing $4.3 million to renovate the track and field facilities at George A. Whiting Memorial Field. The old track will be razed, and the new lighted track will be built, opening in fall 2023. A groundbreaking took place Oct. 3.

Kaleidoscope returns to the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center on Oct. 8, featuring nearly 400 students from the Lawrence Conservatory of Music. It'll be part of the Blue & White Homecoming Weekend Celebration.
