Each term at Lawrence University is so packed full of great events, it can be difficult to keep track of them all. That’s why I put together this list of nine events Lawrentians won’t want to miss this spring term. Let this serve as a guide to your social plans for the next few weeks.
Have other events you’re excited to attend? Tell us about your favorite upcoming dates in our social media comments.
1) Greek Week
I still have songs from last year’s lip-sync battle stuck in my head. During the seventh week of the term, most of the Greek-associated groups on campus come together and for a week-long Battle of the Greeks. Each day throughout the week, a different group takes over and hosts an event to raise money for their charity of choice. This all leads up to a lip-sync battle in the Amphitheater between all the sororities and fraternities that participated throughout the week. You won’t want to miss that battle!
2) LI Spring Formal
I love a good excuse to get dressed up. Each year during the spring and fall terms, Lawrence International hosts a bi-annual formal. This year is no different, as LI hosts the annual Spring Formal on May 10 at Liberty Hall. There will be a bus running from campus to Liberty Hall every 15 minutes starting at 9:45 p.m. Have you thought about what you might wear yet?
3) Stole Ceremonies
“You may now move your tassels from right to left.” As we count down to graduation, many groups on campus say goodbye and congratulate their seniors with a stole to wear during the graduation ceremony. To present the stoles to the graduates, many groups hold ceremonies to celebrate the seniors and their accomplishments. Keep your eyes peeled when walking around campus for more information about these ceremonies!
4) Movies on the Quad
Is that the sun?? As the snow finally melts away, the Diversity Center wants to help you enjoy the nice weather. The Diversity Center will be hosting “Movies on the Quad” in May. They plan to have a giant projector to display the movie, and there will be lots of popcorn. What movies are on your to-see list?
5) Spring term means spring sports
“HOME RUN!!!” Be sure to keep up with the softball, baseball, and track teams’ schedules so you can go out and support our Vikes! On May 4, starting at 10 a.m., head over to Whiting Field to support the track team at their only home meet of the spring season. Watching people run is fun for me, but actually running, not so much.
6) Jazz jams
Need a study break? Every Monday in Mead Witter (on second floor in the Warch Campus Center), students come together to play jazz from 9:30 p.m. until midnight. This is open to all and gives students who don’t know much about music the opportunity to learn more.
7) DJ Lucas
I have been looking for new music to listen to! On Monday, April 29, WLFM is featuring Massachusetts-based rapper DJ Lucas in Esch Hurvis for a private concert just for Lawrence students.
8) World Music Series
Not the World Series, but the World Music Series. On Monday, May 27 at Stansbury Theater, the World of Music Series continues with featured meditative traditional ceremonial pieces and vibrant contemporary works by Balinese composers.
9) LUAroo
Last but not least, Lawrence University’s annual LUAroo. Otherwise known as “Lawrence’s Coachella,” it is happening once again. This giant darty (day party) will be taking place May 25- 26 on the quad. I have to download Tobi Lou and Oshun now so I can know all the lyrics in time.
