Viking Downtown Deals decal

Viking Downtown Deals is an exciting partnership among Appleton Downtown Inc., local business, and Lawrence's more than 2,100 students, faculty, and staff! Deals are a great opportunity to show visiting parents, families, and friends that their students are warmly welcomed and embraced in the Fox Valley. For our Viking Downtown Deal Partners, Lawrence looks forward to actively promoting your business and co-branding and cross promotion during Viking Welcome Week in September and at various events throughout the year. 

Who should join?

Downtown businesses, attractions, and experiences, (really a business of any type), may participate in the program.

What am I committing to?

Not much! Once you register your business (for free!), all you need to do is work with your staff to operationalize a discount for when a guest asks about the discount and presents a valid Lawrence University ID card. Program promotion and promotional materials will be provided by Lawrence University.

What kind of discount? 

We appreciate any consideration of a special value for Lawrentians! Some examples include:

  • 10% discount
  • Free appetizer
  • BOGO deal

How will the program be promoted by Lawrence?

The Viking Downtown Deals program and your business will be part of the new student and residence hall programming with promotional signage throughout Lawrence's campus. Lawrence will also provide signage and other promotional materials to use in storefronts at no expense to partners. 

Ongoing promotion will include:

  • Social media: Shoutouts and video reviews on LU social channels with partner-specific tagging and promos.
  • Web: Preferred partner listing on university websites including Lawrence.edu and MyLU
  • Email: Program and rotating partner promotion in MyLU Insider, LU Monthly, holiday gift guide
  • Print: program feature in Lawrence magazine


Branded or cobranded printed materials and digital files will be provided and may include:

  • Window clings (near entry door payment types)
  • Larger format promotional window signs for Welcome Week
  • Viking Discount Deals and I’m With Blu stickers
  • Baby Blu coloring sheets
  • Social post graphics
  • Appearance with Blu, the university mascot (appearance request form)
