Campus offices and local businesses provide information. Come and meet with representatives from:

   Local religious organizations

2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Walking Tours

Tours of campus will leave from
the Recreation Center

Beyond Words

Buchanan Kiewit Recreation Center (Multipurpose Room, lower level)

Beyond Words is a “living museum” that finds root in the philosophy “the only way to learn is through experience.”  Participants will experience words, art, and ideas exploring diversity and campus community issues.

Parent Orientation Session

“Life at Lawrence: Discussion with the Dean’s Staff”

Lucinda’s (Colman Hall)

A question and answer session follows brief presentations by Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Nancy Truesdell and members of the campus life, career center, health, and counseling services staff.

Welcome Concert

Memorial Chapel

All are encouraged to attend this concert featuring Conservatory of Music students.

Lucinda’s Dining Room (Colman Hall)

New students and their alumni parents, grandparents, and siblings are invited to this special breakfast.

9:00 a.m.

Matriculation Handshake and President’s Welcome (Attendance at this session is required of all new students.)

Memorial Chapel

Each new student will meet President Jill Beck before joining family members in the Chapel for the official campus welcome event (followed by class photo).

11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Parent Luncheon

Downer Commons

Parents and family members enjoy a  luncheon on their own while new students meet with faculty advisors.

1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Parents and family members should attend one of the following sessions:

“Money Matters”

Wriston Auditorium

Meet with finance and financial aid staff to discuss your student’s money management, campus employment, the billing process, and financial aid.

“Navigating Parent/Student Relationships:
You’re Still the Parents, But . . .”

Youngchild Hall 121

Meet and interact with current students and parents of current students who will share their perspectives on what each wants and needs from the other, how to approach the transition, and the normal range of emotions you may be feeling.

2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Parent Orientation Session “Academic Success at Lawrence”

Lucinda’s (Colman Hall)

Geoff Gajewski, Acting Dean of Student Academic Services, and other staff members discuss Freshman Studies, academic advising, the curriculum, grade reports, tutoring and support services, and services for those with disabilities.

4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Family Send-off Reception

Science Hall Atrium

New students and family members are invited to mingle, meet informally with President Beck and staff, and enjoy
refreshments before family members depart.
