Being a good parent is never an easy job. It takes time, energy, a great deal of patience, and an unflappable sense of humor. Never are those elements more necessary than when your son or daughter is making career decisions at Lawrence University. Good parenting also takes good information. Knowing about the career planning process and knowing what to expect from your daughter or son during each developmental stage will give you the tools to better assist them in making career choices.
The first career decision a student makes is whether to come to Lawrence University, a liberal arts institution. With that choice begins a process of decision making that will continue during the years at college and beyond. A "career" is not necessarily one choice that will apply for a lifetime, but rather all of the experiences and skills resulting from many different choices. Lawrence students have four years to develop intellectually and emotionally. They have the time to experiment, explore, take risks, and learn more about themselves and their career goals.
