Fraternity and Sorority Chapters

Sororities

Lawrence's three national sororities are all members of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) and are governed and coordinated on campus the the Lawrence Panhellenic Council. Chapters meet in chapter rooms located on the Panhellenic Wing of Colman Hall. Each chapter decorates and furnishes its own room, and maintains archives and storage in the lower level of the wing. A common recreation room is also located in the lower level, and a Panhellenic Kitchen serves some of the social needs of the chapters and individual members.

Delta Gamma

Alpha Zeta Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1915, goes by the nickname of DG. Founded at the Lewis School for Girls in Oxford, Mississippi in 1873, Delta Gamma is among the oldest sororities in the United States. Colors are bronze, pink, and blue; the sorority's flower is the cream colored rose and their symbol is the anchor. Their national philanthropy is Service for Sight and Aid to the Blind. Kappa Alpha Theta

Alpha Psi Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1915, goes by the nickname of Theta. Founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1870, Kappa Alpha Theta was the first women's Greek Letter society organized with principles and methods paralleling men's fraternities. Colors are black and gold; the sorority's flower is the pansy and their symbol is the kite and twin stars. Their ongoing philanthropy is Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Kappa Kappa Gamma

Zeta Epsilon Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1981, goes by the nickname of Kappa, and is Lawrence's most recent addition to the Greek community. Founded at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois in 1870, Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded shortly after Kappa Alpha Theta and was among those early student organizations advocating for coequal education among men and women. Colors are dark and light blue; the sorority's flower is the blue iris and their symbol is the key. Their national philanthropy is Reading is FUNdamental (RIF). Fraternities

Lawrence's five national/international fraternities are all members of the National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and are governed and coordinated on campus by the Lawrence Interfraternity Council. Chapters have chapter rooms on campus, most located within formal group houses occupied by individual chapters. Members are expected to live within their formal group houses unless filled to capacity, and board with their fraternity chapters eating most of their meals within their houses, though some meals are eaten in the University's Dining Service facilities each week.

Beta Theta Pi

Gamma Pi Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1936, goes by the nickname of Betas. Founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1839, it is a member of what is known as the Miami Triad, a trio of Greek organizations founded at Miami along with Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Chi. Colors are pink and blue, and the fraternity's flower is the rose. More information may be obtained by contacting the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Delta Tau Delta

Delta Nu Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1935, goes by the nickname of Delts. Founded at Bethany College in 1858 in what was at the time Virginia but now lies within West Virginia, the fraternity survived the Civil War thanks to the establishment of a chapter at Jefferson College in Pennsylvania in 1861. Colors are purple, white, and gold, and the fraternity's flower is the purple iris. More information may be obtained by contacting the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

Phi Delta Theta

Wisconsin Beta Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1859, goes by the nickname of Phi Delts or Phis. Phi Delta Theta was the first fraternity established at Lawrence. Founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1848, it is also a member of the Miami Triad. Colors are argent and azure, and the fraternity's flower is the white carnation. Phi Kappa Tau

Mu Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1920, goes by the nickname of Phi Taus. Founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1906, the fraternity was established to combat undemocratic practices and ideas of false aristocracy. Colors are old gold and Harvard red, and the fraternity's flower is the carnation. More information may be obtained by contacting the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.

Sigma Phi Epsilon

Wisconsin Alpha Chapter, founded at Lawrence in 1915, goes by the nickname of Sig Eps. Founded at Richmond College (now known as the University of Richmond) in Richmond, Virginia in 1901, the fraternity claims Dr. Seuss among its distinguished alumni. Colors are red and purple, and the fraternity's flowers are the violet and dark red rose. More information may be obtained by contacting the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
