The following are letters sent to students who came before the Honor Council during Term I, 2001.
You have been found in violation of the Lawrence University Honor Code for use of unauthorized materials on your midterm exam in _______ with Professor ________. In your testimony you were unable to provide any reasons to question these assessments.
_______ you have unfairly advanced your academic performance and violated the mutual trust between students and faculty upon which the University depends. By opening and paging through the course notebook during the midterm examination, you violated the parameters of the test and unfairly advanced your academic performance. Consequently, you have been assigned a sanction of a three-letter reduction on the exam. The sanction represents the severity of the violation and is consistent with the sanctions attached to similar violations in the past.
Be advised that should you be found in violation of the Honor Code again, this letter will be used in determining an appropriate sanction.

Consequently, you have been assigned two sanctions. First, you will receive course grades of F in _________ and ____________. Because this is a second violation, you will receive a one-term suspension for Term II of this academic year. The sanctions represent the severity of the violation and are consistent with the sanctions attached to similar violations in the past.
