Frequently Asked Questions
- Why should I consider studying Economics at Lawrence?
You will benefit from small classes and the close attention of our faculty. All courses, including introductory courses, are taught by faculty members, not graduate assistants. The Economics Department offers a variety of topical courses such as Urban Economics, Environmental Economics, the Economics of Medical Care, Social Choice Theory, Corporate Finance, Game Theory, Natural Resource Economics, and others. Also, student-initiated courses and programs are encouraged. Many students take one or more tutorial or independent study courses before they graduate. These courses allow students to explore, under the guidance of a faculty member, specialized areas or topics of interest to them. For details, please visit

Yes, there are two ways to earn academic credit for an internship at Lawrence; by registering for an already existing course or by submitting a petition to the Committee on Instruction. Students (who qualify under the guidelines of specific courses) may register for internship courses that are currently offered by departments or as university courses (students will need to make sure they meet any requirements set forth by the department).
