Welcome to the Economics Department

Welcome to the Department of Economics!

Economists study how individuals, groups and organizations make decisions, the different institutional frameworks for these decisions, and how desirable outcomes can be promoted by changing the incentives of decision makers. Economists work to understand the world around us, and apply their understanding of decision making and economic institutions to improve policy and institutional design.

As a student of Economics you will first study economic theory and techniques of analysis to acquire the basic building blocks of economic models. Then you will use your understanding to study specific areas of economic problems. The faculty in our department offer a broad range of theoretical and applied courses. You will also have the opportunity to explore your specific interests with faculty in tutorials and independent study courses.
