PhD Career Path

<< Back to Career Paths

Students interested in studying in depth the science of Economics and eventually contributing to it enter a PhD program after graduation. Though it is not considered necessary for success in a PhD program, some students choose to work for a year or two before entering a PhD program. If you plan to start a PhD program right after graduating, you should take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) by October of your senior year. The American Economic Association has a very informative website on Graduate Studies in Economics

After earning your PhD, your interests may lead you to pursue an academic position, consulting work, or work at a government agency or an international agency such as the IMF or the World Bank.
