APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University softball standout Carli Gurholt had a hot hitting week during the Vikings' spring break trip to Florida and was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Gurholt (Scandinavia, Wis./Amherst H.S.) hit .433 and put on a display of power hitting during Lawrence's 10 games in Clermont, Fla. The sophomore shortstop blasted six homers and drove in 17 runs.
Gurholt belted a pair of homers in Lawrence's 11-6 win over D'Youville College to tie the school game record for round-trippers. She drove in six runs in that game, which was one shy of tying the school game record. Gurholt is just one home run short of tying the school season record of seven, which was set by teammate Alex Goodson in 2007.
Gurholt, who went 13-for-30, had also had a pair of doubles and posted an impressive 1.100 slugging percentage.
Gurholt also walked five times and was hit by a pitch to finish with a .528 on-base percentage. She also was 3-for-3 on stolen-base attempts.
Lawrence, which swept a doubleheader from the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Thursday, returns to action when it begins Midwest Conference play at Beloit College on Saturday.
