APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's tennis player Caleb Ray has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Ray, a freshman from Austin, Texas, went 4-0 on the week as Lawrence won a pair of matches. A former standout at Lyndon B. Johnson High School, Ray improved to 4-3 in singles and doubles on the season.
Ray rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the first set against Austin Sveom of Concordia University of Wisconsin to win 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, at No. 4 singles. Ray teamed with Travis Fondow to beat Brian Tresedder and Juliano Becker 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Lawrence won the match 6-3.
In a 9-0 sweep of Marian University, Ray downed Jory Lawson 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Ray and Fondow beat Lucas Nieman and Kyle Ohland 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Lawrence returns to action Friday when it travels to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
