
Emma Tahmiziàn is a graduate of the Bulgarian State Conservatory of Music and holds a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School of Music. Her teachers include John Perry, Adele Marcus, Felix Galimir, Yvonne Lefébure, Julie and Konstantin Ganev, and Penka Petkova.
Ms. Tahmizian's international career was launched at nineteen, when she won the Robert Schumann International Competition in Zwickau and gave her Berlin Debut. Since then, she has toured extensively as a recitalist, soloist with orchestra and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe, including the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, the Czech Republic, her native Bulgaria, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. Her affinity with broad repertoire has taken her to widely various venues. She has premiered and recorded numerous new pieces, and several composers have written for or dedicated works to her. As a founding member of quartet MOSAIC, she has participated in multifarious performances.
She holds top prizes from the Van Cliburn, Tchaikovsky, Leeds, Montréal, J. S. Bach (Leipzig), and Smetana (Prague) International Competitions. She has also earned the Pro Musicis International Award and a New York Foundation for the Arts grant.
In addition to her previous work at Lawrence, Ms. Tahmiziàn has taught and presented residencies at the Bulgarian State Conservatory of Music, University of Virginia, Middlebury College, and College of the Holy Cross.
