Words that describe Lawrence: challenging, individualized, beautiful, social, enriching
Words that describe Lawrence students: smart, funny, engaging, curious, open-minded
The best thing about Appleton: I love that Appleton is located in such a beautiful
part of the country. The river, parks, and trails provide endless opportunities
for those who enjoy activities outdoors. I love the coffee shops downtown and
access to numerous cultural events -- both on and off campus.
My Favorite Things About Lawrence University: “Few colleges and universities
have a first year requirement as stimulating and intellectually potent as Freshman
Studies at Lawrence University.” The first academic experience students
have forces them to break down the barriers between schools of thought and
encourages them to think outside of the educational box they may have been
limited to in the past.
Advice to students: Enjoy the process of choosing a college! The ultimate
question is not which college wants you, but which college do YOU want.
When looking
at schools, keep these questions in mind: Do you learn best in discussion
and interactive classes or in lectures? How important to you is the ability
to
work closely with faculty? How much flexibility do you need, want, and
can you handle in a curriculum? Are you self-disciplined or do you need
to be pushed
to do your work? After you ask yourself all of these questions, you may
have a better idea of what you are looking for in a college. In the end,
though,
you may walk away from a school and know that it is the perfect fit for
you with no knowledge of why. Go with that feeling and enjoy the ride.
Internationalism: The international community at Lawrence is wonderful.
We have such a vibrant and unique group of students that add so much
to campus.
I love talking with prospective international students because I have
a chance to hear about where they come from and the unique dynamics they
will bring
to the campus environment. Often students are nervous about attending
college
in the United States and it puts them at ease when they discover the
community here is very supportive and welcoming. The commitment Lawrence
has to internationalism
is noteworthy. And as they discover as students, we all can learn a lot
from each other -- whether you are from Wisconsin, Michigan, Oregon,
India, Romania,
or Brazil.
