18 Visiting international exchange students will attend Lawrence for one year from the Russian Federation, Netherlands, Japan and Canada.
Meet the class
Lawrence students are a multi-talented and multi-interested group. When we review applications for each class, we are always fascinated and impressed by the breadth of experiences students bring with them. Among the newest class of Lawrentians, here are some that caught our eye:
- Wrote, directed and produced a play.
- Paddled, portaged and backpacked 1,000 miles in Canada and Alaska.
- Spent her summer biking across the country to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
- Is a member of an ancient morris dancing group.
- Published a children’s book in Brazil.
- Spent a week in the Amazon, fishing for piranhas and avoiding a tapir (an endangered animal similar to a rhinoceros).
- Selected to speak in the German Reichstag building in front of Bundestag representatives.
- Worked with injured and orphaned monkeys and baboons in South Africa.
- Embarked upon a 10 part rock-oriented opera about the Spanish Armada.
- Purchased a pet tarantula in order to overcome her fear of spiders.
- Spent his gap year in Israel volunteering, studying and working.
- Created Tha zhoet ‘kril,’ a new subject-object-verb language with a complete set of grammatical rules and 2,000 words.
- Went to Cuba to gather information for a novel he’s writing about the failure of communism.
