Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship The Gilman Scholarship is open to US citizen, undergraduate students who wish to study abroad. Students attending programs world-wide may apply but preference is given to applications for programs outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Applicants must be Federal Pell grant recipients. This competitive scholarship provides $5,000 for a semester or year abroad. www.iie.org/gilman

National Security Education Program (NSEP) – Boren Undergraduate Scholarship – Boren Scholarships provide a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East) but generally underrepresented in study abroad (therefore, Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded). German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – DAAD is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. They offer programs and funding for students and others in higher education studying in Germany. Study abroad students can apply for DAAD’s undergraduate scholarships. www.daad.org/?p=undergrad

Bridging Project for Study Abroad in Japan - The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations has made it possible for ATJ to award 100 scholarships annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Foundation for Asia Pacific Education - This foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create global citizens and leaders by assisting students in achieving their personal and professional goals of obtaining cultural and academic experiences within the Asia Pacific region. They do this by awarding scholarships to help enable students to obtain study abroad experience in the Asia Pacific region (including Australia, China, Japan and New Zealand).  Students who are from underrepresented populations in international education are a priority.
