Math is the universal language.

Become fluent as you follow Lawrence’s carefully crafted mathematics pathway, where you’ll hone your foundational calculus and proof techniques, gain an introduction to computer science, and explore fields of advanced mathematics and statistics. Whether you plan to pursue graduate studies or bring your mathematical mind to a career in business, engineering, healthcare, IT, and more, our two math track options empower you to reach your goals for life after Lawrence. Choose from a major in mathematics (with the option of a statistics track) or a major in mathematics-economics.

Student Perspective

"In the math-stats department, I got to practice the applied skills and study the beautiful theoretical underpinnings of what I do now in industry. There are so many ways to grow through collaboration, make connections, and deep-dive with individual research."

Grab your passport and spend a term or more abroad, in programs such as the Lawrence University London Centre or the Budapest Semester in Mathematics.

The Chandler Senior Experience

As a senior you will engage in a one-term independent study, working on a topic of your choice under the guidance of a faculty member. You’ll demonstrate your ability to learn and apply mathematics with little supervision and to clearly and cogently express this knowledge both verbally and in writing.

Recent Senior Experience projects include:

  • Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics
  • Knot Theory and Math Blogging: All Four Proofs that the Borromean Rings Cannot be Formed Using Perfect Circles
  • Random Forests and Baseball: An Examination of Exit Velocity and its Predictors
